Linda Quigley. The Current of Time. Painting.
Artist Statement
I paint animals with a sense of vitality and tenderness, working across pastel, acrylic, and oil. My practice is devoted to capturing the unique spirit of each creature and celebrating the profound bonds we share with our animal companions.
I was born in Lewiston, Maine and now reside in Southern California. My work is shaped by my lifelong love of animals as well as my passion for genealogy. The journey of exploring my family tree—and the stories of my Franco‑American lineage—breathes life into my paintings, infusing each piece with history, continuity, and a deep sense of belonging.
I own and operate Linda’s Pet Portraits. I am the sole artist who creates custom pet portraits, shipping them across the country.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts from Plymouth State College and a Certificate in Studio Arts from the University of Southern Maine. This formal training provided a strong foundation, allowing me to experiment, grow, and ultimately develop a perspective that blends personal narrative with artistic expression.
My aim is to spark connection—between viewer and canvas, animal and human, past and present. Through my art, I hope to inspire reflection, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the stories that shape us and the beauty woven into everyday life.
I have exhibited my artwork in New England and Southern California. I’m especially drawn to painting animals in their natural habitats—from the chipmunks that scurry through the woods of Maine to the majestic wolves of the American West. Patterns, textures, and rhythms found in nature continually inspire my work.
The piece I submitted, The Current of Time, is a celebration of my dual identity. The subject represents us as Franco-Americans, naturally bathing in the St. Lawrence River in Canada. This work honors my ancestors—those who came before me, who endured hardship, and whose resilience continues to guide my creative life.
