They took the children from their mothers.
They ignored their cries. The children’s cries.
The mothers’ cries. They took the children
from their mothers. Babies in diapers,
cocooned in woven senkas, girls with pink
butterfly barrettes, boys in red Elmo shirts,
children with sleep in their eyes.
